The biggest thing that makes Woof Boom Radio stations different is us. Kim Morris started her day after Thanksgiving like any other, prepared to tell shoppers what was happening. Black Friday is typically one of the most listened-to radio days every year. All of the competing area stations were tracked. Not WLBC.
While Kim was on the board on Black Friday morning, there was a crash on Interstate 69 shortly after 11 a.m. A Mack dump truck was traveling northbound between Markleville Road and Rangeline Road near Anderson. The truck veered off the left side of the road and crossed the median, going airborne over the barrier cable. The truck hit a southbound semi truck that was carrying frozen food. The dump truck overturned, blocking both lanes of southbound traffic. Other accidents northbound ensued. The drivers were taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson with non-life-threatening injuries. And a planned shopping day for many left them stranded on the interstate with hundreds of cars. Their source to find out what was happening was radio, specifically WLBC.
For several hours Kim stayed well past her scheduled shift working the phones and telling drivers what was happening as some were stuck on the interstate for 5½ hours. Kim, thank you for telling people what they need to know. WLBC was the only local media outlet keeping people informed. Way to go, Kim Morris!
