A New Year, and A New Sound

By: Jay Garrison, Production Director and On Air Personality for WERK-FM and MAX
What a year 2015 is going to be for WERK-FM. It began on December 26th. After a month of Christmas music, we debuted “the new sound of 104.9 WERK-FM.” The music was contemporized. Yes, we still play some of the huge hits of the 60s and 70s. But now, our radio station leans heavily on pop and rock from the 80s and 90s. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, and Prince have become our core artists. It was time.
Now, we’ve gotten our fair share of negative reaction early. But some positive too. We are happy that people are responding so passionately. Keep it coming. Via Facebook, Twitter, and the feedback option at WERKFM.net. In time, we hope all fans of local radio will appreciate the new WERK-FM.
Brownie, Zach, Paul, Wade, and I are still on board talking about local things. Woof Boom Radio is locally owned and operated and WERK-FM’s focus beyond the music still remains with our fans and advertising partners.
WERK-FM has so much history in Muncie. February 14th will be our 50th birthday. We’re looking forward to a year’s worth of celebration. Expect to hear some of the old WERK KREW here and there over the coming months.
It’s not a mid-life crisis. We are born again for 2015 and beyond. We are as excited for the future as we’ve ever been and are committed to enhancing the WERK-FM experience. (Have you seen the new RDS technology in your vehicle yet?) With more to come.
We hope the New Sound of 104.9 WERK-FM “werks” for you and that you’ll join us to celebrate our 50th year.
